Longreach was gazetted in 1887 and is named after the “long reach” of the nearby Thomson River. Population of around 3,200 in 2011. The major attractions are the Australian Stockmans hall of Fame (Opened in 1988 by Queen Elizabeth II), the Qantas Founders Outback Museum, Longreach School of Distance Education (LSDA) and Kinnon & Co.

Jigsaw was recently put over a weigh station and came in at 1,100kg – that’s a lot of beef, but I recon he would be a bit chewy.

We did the Cobb & Co stagecoach experience that sets off on the original mail route from Longreach to Windorah with a fantastic gallop through the bush.

The next day we went out to a lookout and along the way came across this mob of wild Brumbies that were in no mood for people!
