My mum has lived in Innisfail for about 12 years now so we’re pretty familiar with this town and have always loved it. Located on the Cassowary Coast, Innisfail is probably best known for its Italian community of sugarcane and banana farmers, the preservation of its art-deco architecture, and Cyclone Larry which hit Innisfail in 2006. Nestled on the banks of the South Johnstone River, and due to the high rainfall, it’s ‘Green like you’ve never seen’ as the board claims as you drive into town from the north. About 1hr 20mins south of Cairns, it’s in a great location and only a short drive away from everything good to do in this part of Queensland.
This time round we could really immerse ourselves in the area as we had a lot more time up our sleeves (in the end we stayed nearly two weeks).
